Oscar Night 2018

One of the perks to being retired is that, since you don't have to work, you get to stay up and watch the Oscars! Every year at this event, as a friend of mind recently pointed out, there is usually an underlying theme highlighting a societal or political issue. One year, film nominations and acceptance speeches might draw awareness to visible minorities or women's involvement in the motion picture industry . The next year, our attention is directed to some other important issue. This year the obvious theme was diversity. As one of the award recipients put it; "Representation Matters"!
Representation Matters

Rita Moreno, age 86, in the same dress (remade) that she wore in 1962 when she won best actress in a supporting role for West Side Story (left). Right, Rita at the Oscars 2018. (eonline.com) |
Just as the superhero film Black Panther inspires young boys and girls of colour, I was inspired by seeing a few stunning women of a certain age. Eva Marie Saint, Rita Moreno, Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren appeared at the 2018 Oscars and impressed the heck out of me. Their ages are: 93, 86, 80, and 72! They all looked stunning and walked, unassisted, with grace onto the stage and spoke articulately to the massive audience. I know, they are all beautiful women to begin with, and they are all trained actors with years of experience ...... but still! Yes, older women can be glamorous!
I was especially impressed by 93 year old Eva Marie Saint's presentation. Check it out!

So, after my yoga class tomorrow, I will get my hair cut like Helen Mirren, have a facial, and look for some cool glasses and bling like Rita Moreno. A little Hollywood inspiration for us old dolls!
