Nova Scotia Road Trip

This weekend my husband and I went to Nova Scotia to visit our son, Joel and his girlfriend Alicia who live in Lunenburg. We also stopped in Kingston to see Jim and Linda, my husband's brother and his wife.
Lunenburg is a very picturesque town on the coast and is a Unesco World Heritage site. The architecture there is fabulous!

On the drive from our home in Quispamsis, we happened to catch a CBC interview with the author of a book called The Immoral Life of Henrietta Lacks. Henrietta was a poor black woman who developed cervical cancer in the 50's in  the U.S. After seeking treatment, which wasn't easy in those days if you were black, she had a portion of her tumor removed. without her knowledge, for further study. To her doctor and other researchers surprise, her cells continued to reproduce thus enabling further research and the development of much progress in the treatment for many diseases. Unfortunately, Henrietta, mother of five children, died at the age of 31. The story of her life and her contribution to medical science and the consequences that her family endured as a result sound fascinating and I can't wait to read the book!
