Men With or Without Hats!

Lately I have been into portraits and most of them have been female subjects. I thought that I would try men -with or without hats! These images were based on photos from the local newspaper - men who are "taking care of business" !

I start by doing a quick sketch from the photo and then do the painting from the sketch. I try not to use the photo for reference, since I'm more interested in the gesture or expression than a likeness. I think, however, that these are not as expressive as I would like them to be. Therefore, I think I will return to doing something more imaginary.
