A Dark Christmas for Thousands

"A Dark Christmas for Thousands" was the headline in our local newspaper on December 26th. The ice storm that swept through Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes left thousands of families without power at the one time of the year when we depend on it the most. We depend on it to light our Christmas trees and outdoor decorations, to cook our turkeys, to keep our overstuffed refrigerators going, and most of all to keep our homes warm and livable so that we can enjoy the company of family and friends.

The photo above is of my two son's in our backyard. It looks like they are having fun in the snow playing with a sled, but actually they are dragging a generator to our house to give us enough power to plug a couple of heaters in. We had no power for two days so things were getting a little chilly! Thank goodness we had our son's house to go to to cook our Christmas dinner and unwrap presents .... and using his hot tub didn't hurt either! Many people in our area are still without power after six days! ..... Did you read my second last blog post about why I hate winter?

The pic below is the state of my little planter these days!
